A little about SNCF classesThe "old" SNCF locomotive classes has a prefix that tells the number of wheels (typically BB or CC) and a number with 4 or 5 digits. Numbers below 10000 are 1.5 kV DC, number 10000 - 19999 are 25 kV 50 Hz AC, numbers 20000 - 29999 are dual-voltage (1,5 kV and 25 kV), number 30000-39999 are triple voltage and numbers 40000 - 49999 are 4 voltages (1.5 kV and 3 kV DC + 15 kV and 25 kV AC), number 60000 - 79999 are diesel locomotives.Introduced in 1999, the new current classes have 6 digits, the last 5 are the same as the old classes. The first digit show which division the locomotive belongs to: 1 is Voyageurs France-Europe (VFE), 2 is Corail InterCités (CIC), 4 is freight, 5 is TER (regional trains). |
