MONTANA / GLACIER NATIONAL PARK |

Glacier National Park is close to Canada, a part of it is actually in Canada. Before the trip I had seen a picture from the national park from "Going to the Sun road" - this looked amazing, and that was one of the reason for going to Glacier National Park. We didn't get to see "Going to the Sun road" because the pass is closed by snow most part of the year. But the bit we get to see was quite impressing anyway. We started at the west entrance; it was possible to drive about 10 miles into the park (about the end of Lake McDonald). After having seen the west side we took US2 along the southern border for the national park to the east entrance. |

On the eastern side we could go about 5 miles into the park. In my opinion the east side is more spectacular than the west side because the east side is where the Rocky Mountains meet the prairie. And this sudden change from a mixture of rolling hills and flat prairie to towering mountains is impressive.
On the way up on the east side the snow was caught between the tyres and the carbody. But we were finally able to kick the snow loose. |
