Washington, DC, is the capitol of USA. The city has a special status; it is not a state but a district; DC means District of Columbia, and the area is "squeezed in between the states Maryland and Virginia. | There is (of course) a special atmosphere in the city because USA, one of the most important countries in the world, is ruled from here. There is a lot of security everywhere, probably also because of the war in Iraq, when we were there. But there is also a lot of openness, for example it is possible to seand hear the debattes in the Senat. | There is a lot of museums in DC, and they are, like most other attractions, free. You have to get up early to get at ticket for later the same day. Visited in 2003 and 2006. |
